Forbes’ 10 Worst Stereotypes About Powerful Women
Forbes magazine just released the 10 Worst Stereotypes About Powerful Women. The magazine interviewed female leaders around the world in politics, industry, and media and compiled the following list of their most hated labels:
1. Ice Queen
2. Single and Lonely
3. Tough
4. Weak
5. Masculine
6. Conniving
7. Emotional
8. Angry
9. Just a Token
10. A Cheerleader (warm, friendly, bimbo)
We’ve heard these descriptions before and we’ll hear them again. Women have become the Push-Me-Pull-Me’s of modern society.Do you think I come off too weak? Better tweak my image. Oops, now I’m too masculine…ok, I’ll try the warm, friendly, strong approach. Conniving you say? Aughh…
Thankfully, over the years, the pervasiveness of these stereotypes is slowly diminishing. That drop is due to one factor- increasing numbers of women in executive positions. Ahh…there is hope.
Ever feel like you have been unfairly typecast? How did you deal with it?
